Default Wheel exchanging

I know this is being discussed alot lately, but help anyway please
My 85 needs tires for sure and instead of struggling to find
255 50 16's to fit, I'm considering going to 17's. Found a set of stock 89 vette wheels / tires on Craigslist. Says 2 are like new and 2 80% tread. They are Good Years.

Wheels advertised as excellent. Asking $500
Question 1
Worth it? Don't think I can buy tires alone for that much

Question 2
I don't really want to shell out $100+ for adapters, so what will they look like without them?
Thanks for opinions

Those are one of the less appealing C4 wheels imo, but they don't look horrible and 500 bucks is cheap than a new set of tires.

IIRC you need 1/2 in adapters, so they'd sit 1/2 inch in.

I like the 88/89 (and 90) wheels.

I think the offset is about 3/4" different if you are getting spacers. Without them they will sit in about that much.

There was a chart a while back that had "front spacing". It shows how far the outside edge sits from the mounting surface.

84-87 base
8.5"/2 - 32mm/25.4 = 2.99"

84R-87 Z51
9.5"/2 - 38mm/25.4 = 3.25"

88-96 base
9.5"/2 - 56mm/25.4 = 2.55"

So if you have the base wheels the new ones will be .44" more to the inside. If you have the Z51 wheels then the new ones will be .70" more to the inside.

Good luck with your choice.

Depends on how old the tires are.Look like original Gatorbacks.
If the wheels are excellent those center caps are pretty pricey. You will need 3/4" adators to correct the offset otherwise it looks really goofy. You might be better off with a new wheel and tire package in the proper offset.

I agree. I am trying to find a less expensive way to upgrade
