ok so i have 3-4 current issues with my vette windshield wipers not working some extremely weird noise that comes out of the dash when the heater is activated (only when its cold) and (might be same issue) the upper vents do not blow at all..
the BIG issue right now is that my car is not starting and its going to be towed.... theres full power everything works even the alarm when intentionally set off but im getting no power to the starter. Also the pke remote is lost (and has been lost) for quite sometime ive only seen the pke light go on once and then turn back koff (does that mean its in the car somewhere or???) could that be my issue
sorry for the large post and confusing one at that....
Hi connor,
When you try to start it is the security light coming on and staying on? If yes then the VATS is activated. Simple clean the resistor pellet on the key real good, wait 5 minutes and try again.

Andy!
Again to the rescue! Yes it does stay on... I tried folding up a little piece of paper towel and slid it in and out of the key slot... No luck. Granted I didn't wait though and I did not use rubbing alcohol. I also tried 2 different keys on it (if that helps) it was working all day just fine what causes such a sudden issue?
Don't put anything in the key slot, other than maybe a quick shot of electrical contact cleaner. It is the pellet on the key that usually needs cleaned (alcohol or about any other solvent will get it clean). Wait time is generally about 5 minutes between tries. It just happens on occassion, might just be oil form our fingers getting on the pellet. Did you get it started OK?
Cold weather heater noise on start up is likely the blower motor going bad, at least it is easy to change out. W/wipers are probably the circuit board in the cover of the motor or a bad ground at the motor. If you had the grounds off doing the manifolds/cats I would bet the ground wire was overlooked when you put everything back together.
thats what i thought but i thought i would clarify. yeah no start security light stayed on..... what seems soooo strange to me is how sudden it was, like ive never had anything happen that would hint the system would have an issue... it just fried after sitting for 5 hours.
Any chance a piece of that paper towel you put in the key slot is still in there? Maybe use on of those compressed air cans to blow it out? I am sure you cleaned the key pellets real good, but maybe try some brake clean on the keys, NOT on the switch though. Like I said earlier, only electrical contact cleaner in the key slot.

ill have to get some contact cleaner.... no i doubt it i folded it up pretty well and it was the perfect size. i read somewhere that the little orange wire has a tendency to break off inside the column. rather frustrating. Gm makes some horrible steering columns dont they... if the electrical cleaner fails should i bypass it and call it quits?

My '93 did that for about a month, not anymore. What is the resistor pellet?
I had a similar problem and here is what I did. With the key in the start position go belwo the steering column and look for the green/white wire, from the starter enable relay, dose it have around 10.71V to 12V? If so the VATS is working which means your key worked and the signal was sent to activate the starter enable relay. Once the clutch is depressed (not sure you have auto or stick but both have a safety switch) I have 8.26V on the purple wire going to the starter solenoid. These checks were made at the clutch switch connector. The purple wire runs down to the solenoid and you can reach under the car, while using a mirror VM, to check if voltage is on the solenoid. If so, do what I did, open the hood and use a stick to hit the starter. My starter solenoid was stuck and I had to replace my starter. I hope this helps.
Did your security light flash before you put the key in the start position and after you put it in start does the security light stay on until key is switched to off?

The secuirty light would only come on when I turned the ignition into start. Yes, the security light would only turn off when I put the ignition on off. I mostly had that problem in the afternoon for some reason. My dad's mechanic repaired my fans. Ever since that repair the vette has always started on first try. I am not suggesting that you need to repair your fans.
