So I have a "new to me compressor installed." ( I bought from a forum member) ..I also recently had a new radiator installed. I took my car on a little road trip this weekend ( 4 hours each way) the day I got my car back from the shop... I noticed my air condition wasn't blowing very cold like it did on friday(the day I got my car).. I had come back monday. So I checked my coolant and there is nothing in the reservoir. I did notice it was low when I had got to my destination but did't think much of it since my guage seemed to be at the right temperature. So I guess it leaked out in the process of my trip. My question, besides that there is a leak somewhere is, is there a correlation between the radiator fluid and my a/c not blowing cold air? I'm hoping you say yes... If not i just blew a couple hundred on having that compressor installed that only worked well for a day.....
Whenever replacing the coolant in the system and following that the engine cools down, it will pull lots of coolant from the reservoir. When the engine heated up, it pushes the excess air out that was not filled by the original first filling. It's not uncommon the fill the reservoir tank once or twice to the proper line level before the cooling system stabilizes.
If you have to keep filling it more than 3 or more times, then there is probably a leak or something wrong.
You really need to connect a set of gauges on the A/C to see what is happening.
Is the compressor cycling excessively (maybe more than 10 per minute), it may be low on Freon. But I would get a sniffer and look for a leak. I would start where you did the work last.
One of the problems with installing the compressor is the wrong "O" ring used. Some use a regular "O" ring and some use a flat washer. The surfaces are flat with the washer and cut out with the "O" ring usage.
