Well I did it I sold my 87 vert I was able to get 5,500.00 for it and as fast as the guy gave me the money for it was something like he thought that I would change my mind. I guess I could have gotten a lot more. Then at lunch today I went on E-bay motors, And found a 90 vert with 29000 miles and a one owner, Looks like my 87 except this one has a black top. I will be asking questions about this one as well. Like the radio dosent work, seat belt light stays on with a light that says something rest. I dont remember. It was a long day the car was in south florida. Idid just get home with it. If it helps I seen a post on what c-4s are going for well I paid 12,700.00 for this one But its like new.
Jim
The Seat Belt Light along with the INFL REST light more than likely has to do with one of the front air bag sensors. Pretty easy fix, you can find several threads on the forum about it. Remove the sonsors, clean the bottom of sensor and slather die-electric grease on the bottom of sensor and re-install. Then clear codes and light should go off.
The radio issue will probably be the bose amplifiers that are on each speaker.
I have a 1990 Vert (with Aux Hard Top) and they are great cars, but there are a few 1990 Specific issues:
Tachometer Issue - there is a fix that involves removing the Instrument Panel and re-soldering a replacement resistor from Radio Shack. Don't believe anything that says that a new Tachometer Filter will fix it.
VATS - The dreaded VATS problem. Just bypass it with resistors from Radio Shack. Nobody is really stealling C4 Corvettes.
The Big issue is a problem with the #7 Cylinder, usually crops up at around 80,000 miles. I had the top end of my car rebuilt by a GM Dealership and it cost around $2,500. I posted in a thread with pictures - about 4 years ago.
Good Luck. It sounds like you paid at the top of the market, but still a lot of bang for the buck.
Thanks for the info. I will try to some repairs this weekend. On my radio issue it looks like its just plain stuck, I know thats a funny way to put it but the dial reads 1.00 or 100 some thing like that. And the ant. is up and wont go down. Could that still be the speaker amps.
Jim
No, 1989 through 1991 are not noted for good Bose radios. I had a 1990 and the radio wouldn't pull in a station unless you were standing next to the transmitter. I did the antenna ground plane mod which helped but the radio still lacked receiving power. Yours sounds like there is something wrong with the tuner and the antenna could be a separate issue itself.
If I were to look for a radio how many years did chevy use the same radio that would fit in my 90? I would like to keep the dash looking like factory if possible. If not can someone suggest something.I will get some pictures this weekend and try to post them.

I would have too, thats about 1/2 the price a decent 87 vert goes for on ebay. (I have an 87 vert as well)
I know people on this forum think they are worthless, but the fact is the early convertibles with the atari dashes are getting premium $$$ now. Its almost impossible to find a decent one for under $10K now.
there was a thread not long ago with an auction where good condition early verts were going $18K.
1990 was the first year that Corvettes had the option of a CD player. My '90 Vert had an aftermarket radio that was junk. I bought an properly date coded factory radio for my '90 off of Ebay for around $500 (my car originally came with the Bose/CD/Cassette so that is what I got) . I ened up puting a nice aftermarket radio/CD player in the car anyway. The Bose Speaker amps are a nightmare and are expensive to rebuild or replace. Plus, I also wanted a CD Player that could play MP3's.
Your Antenna problem is probably a broken ribbon. I had to replace mine - you can order just the mast & ribbon if I remember correctly - and re-install into the motor. Can you hear the antenna motor when you turn the radio On/Off? If not, either the antenna motor is burned up, it has been unplugged at the antenna motor, or blown fuse. The malfunctioning radio could also not be sending the signal to control the antenna.
My son put up a couple pictures. early morning with dew on the windows. On another note I found a shop in longwood fl. that has a deal going on for the radio repair and all 4 speakers would be upgraded, amps rebuilt. for 600.00 or if I drop off the car they will do the work of taking out and putting back in for 700.00. I would have to leave the car for 2 days. I would like to see the shop before I take my car there
Jim
Yes your right, This car has every thing that was offered for a corvette in 1990. The PO told me this car has 4400.00 of upgrades from the dealer when he bought it. He said when he seen this car on the show room floor with the top down, He just had to have it. He said to him looking at this car was pure sex, and thats when he had the front tag made. its in the picture. Idrove this car back home from south fl. and its like night and day from my 87. And believe me my 87 was nice. This car is so fast I'm not sure if I will let my son drive it. At least not right away. The car still has the factory top on it. I could go on and on but you get the picture. Oh he also told me that the greenwood spoiler wing was put on at the dealer and it bolts to the frame of the car. Could that be true?

Found this in the for sale section here in case you might need it.
Doesn't work on '90+ cars with the CCM
VATS has to be deleted in the tune
I respectfully disagree. I have a 1990 and I did this personally to my car. Made a bypass out of resistors from Radio Shack adding up to the same resistance value as my key pellet. Then spliced it into the VATS wire coming from the ignition. Never a problem again from VATS.

Jim:
You can get a reconditioned OEM BOSE radio/CD unit from the good folks at Factory Car Stereo in Florida. They have a great reputation, fair pricing and they REALLY know Corvette stereo equipment. Check them out.
