U Joint Procedure
Can someone explain the procedure to change the U Joint(s)? on my 85 Vette. Reg suspension. Clunks when I go to reverse or drive. Classic feeling I had in the past with other cars with worn joints. Could be Trans?
Thanks

do a search for "washers" and be sure that you have new ones when you do the job.

tighten the axle nut first and see if it gets better. not saying you don't need universals, but they are not always the source of the 'clunk'.

Rust on the splines between hub and yoke has also been previously mentioned

But several years ago when I had the "clunk" when going into reverse and into drive .... it was the washer that solved that particular issue.

Hum...on my 96, I've been noticing a similar noise, but its more of a tinging sound instead of a clunking sound. Would that be u-joints as well?
