What is the best way to remove the engine out of an 86? Is it necesary to remove hood? Do you remove the tranny out the bottom or both out the top? I did a search and did not come up with anything, if there is threads on it already, please keep sarcastic comments to your self and post the link. Thanks
That would involve dropping the entire exhaust system, correct?
Yes...Stick or Auto?... You can pull the trans after pulling the engine if it is an auto..Get it on a Trans Jack and roll it forward to the engine bay...
Those pictures make it look easy. I'm assuming if need be you can leave the tranny in the car, right? I'm thinking of doing my own engine swap this summer and need some tips.

If your trans is good then it it is fairly simple..But nothing is simple...
You can leave the trans in the car, but it's a lot easier to drop it out first.
The top bellhousing bolts are a PITA to get to ;
access to them made easier by lowering the rear of trans and using long extensions over top of the bellhousing from underneath
which means trans is half way out anyway
left hood on; left transmission in car; suupported tranny on a jackstand.
took out radiator; shrouds and A/C condenser; dropped exhaust system; disconnected slave cylinder from bellhousing; pulled pretty much everything off engine: intake, heads, pan, starter, all the accessories
pulled stripped block and bellhousing as a unit; had my doubts but it was easy
