Default Coolant Temp Sensor

I never get a coolant temperature on my dash now...just "LO".
I want to replace the sensor and the wiring that goes with it but I want to know where it is located first before I decide to jump on this job myself. Where is it located? TIA!

1986 coupe.

If it reads LO all the time it means the circuit is open or the sensor is broken.

There is a magic number that it will read if the circuit is shorted, but I don't remember off hand what it is. 384 degrees?

The sensor contact might be corroded enough that it doesn't make a connection.

Another possibility is that the wire is broken inside the insulation or at the pin inside the connector.

Disconnect the wire from the sensor and ground the connector pin. You should see the "magic number" on the display. If that happens then the wiring is good and the only thing left is the sensor.
