.......yeah, i know this doesn't go here but, this is probably the best knowledge base i know and this could happen to one of us vette drivers in the future with our cars!.
.......i have a major problem in removing the bottom gas line fitting at the filter of my 96 Toyota Camry....i have the nut on the line into the filter loose about 1-2 turns then, (here is the problem) it stops...period.
.......the line is smooth so, there is nothing stopping the nut from slipping down as it is backed off
.......my brother thinks that it is the sealer they used at the factory that is almost like "concrete" that is stopping the fitting nut from backing off.
......i have backed it out maybe 50 times - each time trying to go farther but, am fearful that i will strip out the nut/fitting...the threads ARE NOT stripped.
......ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS AS TO HOW TO REMOVE THE FITTING TO CHANGE OUT THE GAS FILTER (LOCATED IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT)?...I WILL not CUT THE LINE.........THANKS!
Is there any way to see the threads, to see if there is debris/sealant stuck?
Does the filter unscrew on both ends like our Corvettes? If so it may speed the process to unscrew one end, get solvent in the stuck end, and twist it tight/loose by hand. Quicker to spin it that way and work the solvent in and debris out.
The line will start to deform and twist if you really put enough torque on it. So if you try to get it past the bad spot watch for that, it's easy to see. If nothing else one end of the filter could be cut off then the threads crushed.
.......Problem solved.......thanks for the replies......i applied may intervals of pb blaster long before i posted here...i had to take out everything on the drivers side off of out of the engine compartment and use vice grips going back and forth - a little farther every time but, it did eventually come off........thanks
Glad it didn't turn into a wrench throwing madness kind of problem!
........it came SOOO DAMNEDDD CLOSEEE that it was not even funny....even the fuel filter i was replacing (where the problem was), auto zone, advance auto parts, pep boys - everyone gave me the cross reference part but, the "in" on the input to the filter was too small......i had them ck back to 85 and up to 2000 and they all called for the same part, all which i could not use!.....i had to go to the damned dealer to get a gas filter......NEVER AGAIN WILL I DO THIS JOB!.....OK, I AM OUTTA HERE!
So I'm late to the party and I could only say, congratulations and good to see you again.
But if I had to take a guess, I might say the line might have had a very slight bend or kink in the line so it might not have been perfectly round. Perhaps when they put the flare on the line is when it happened.
My daughters old 92 corolla had the same prob.took it to the dealer and they broke the line.3 days to get the new line in.I also gave my daughter my old campy 97.it has 140000 on it.My gas station looked at it and refused to do it because it would not budge and they did not want to break any lines, you were lucky. It's a bad location and with the rain sAlt and snow it kind of bonds together.

...there were no kinks, bends, twists, rust, debris, oblong-ation (or similar), malformation in this line or ANY anomaly.

.....well there is apparently a "trick" i found to getting the fitting loose.
