The real problem being those members who lean their heads in all that heat too long...

The C4 makes a great garage heater. It's been kinda chilly here, and I'm staining some new doors out in the garage. Shortly after I pulled in and parked, it was 80 degrees in there. Two thumbs up.

These vents are left over from my carburator days when the underhood heat would cause fuel perculation after shutdown.

Uhm...the engine generates more heat while driving then after you've shut it down so you might as well drive with the hood up as well...unfortunately the clam shell design makes that a problem...just remove the hood completely...problem solved!!!

But most of the hot air is flushed out as you drive, when its shut off its getting no airflow so the temps under the hood build up .. Actually the coolant temp does go up right after the car is shut off..To check this out just turn the key to the on position after you shut the motor off and watch your temp gauge...WW

Yep, all that in-block coolant stops moving. Air movement through the compartment and through the gills stops. Things heat up.

Story to be a stickler, but nothing heats up after you shut the car off, you just don't have the airflow so the stagnant air around the engine holds the heat. But your engine was definitely just as hot when it was running if not more, if the parts couldn't handle the heat don't you think we would have threads about making sure you relocate this part outside the engine bay. Hell just put a 160 thermostat in there will run 30-40 degrees cooler all the time. Not just after its not heating up anymore. Sorry for the rant.

I better start opening the hood before antifreeze evaporates, the block, aluminum parts, heat resistant parts, crossover and wires melt.

Lol, just replaced my spark plugs this morning, they keep melting. Ever tried to get a melted spark plug out, it takes a ton of goo gone.

OK admission time, I am in the "always open the hood after I drive in the garage" gang.

In truth I have a few reasons. First I have an isolator switch which means I have get to it by opening the hood. Secondly heat soak does happen when you shut the car down. Lastly its always good to see if there is anything wrong and glance over to ensure everything is fine.

I have an adjustable thermo fan over ride so the fans are on when the ignition is on accessories which I tend to leave on for about 2-3 minutes before I take the key out of the ignition.

The hood doesn't open if the car is parked outside.

Again, I go back to my original statement, the engine and everything underneath is hotter when driving, air flow in the engine compartment is minimal which is why a lot of people will implement a cold air flow system for the air intake. You're not gaining a thing by opening the hood after driving other then wearing out your hood release cables.

Mine, too, until I installed manual fan switches. Now I make sure it's down to 185 when I park it. It's amazing how quickly the temp drops when the fans are running, even idling at a stoplight on a hot day.
