Generally speaking when GM ID'd an RPO for a stripe they also ID'd the color of the stripe with an RPO also on the SPID label. Generally that would have been a 2 digit # with an A following it XXA. Does your car also display anything similar to that? XXU is upper paint if 2 toned or solid color XXL would be a lower color on a 2 tone car in the MY's we're discussing.

I would have been more inclined to believe it was a "typo" that was meant to be D9B and it being the first year for electronic VSS controlled clusters it was just overlooked. If that's the case then the D98 would/should appear on nearly all the production cars until the "typo" was discovered if ever!

Checking a few SPID's would clarify that I'd think!

I'd think there should be several '84 MY build sheets around to confirm either of the mentioned.

The D98 is there but no code on the label ends with an A

I'd be inclined to think it a "typo" BUT I also would have thought by now you might have posted an image of your SPID label! If it's a "typo" then it would appear likely on a VIN run sequence of several cars.

All DXX where the X= a number were all exterior option codes, i.e. spoilers, mirrors and stripes included. In '84 MY all stripe options would have included a color XXA for identification I believe BUT in an '84MY Corvette parts publication preface for catalog usage there's reference to a XXM but I don't recall ever seeing that in any other GM parts publication. That catalog is a 14Y December 1983. Do you have an XXM on the label? The example also uses a D85 for an example and I've never seen that either.

In '84MY there were "no choices" for VSS options - all of them used the same VSS - axle ratio choices were limited.

I'd be interested in an image of your SPID! How about posting an image and including the VIN? You've only ever mentioned "early"! How early? I'd say it's time for "you" to document your claims!

I will post a notice in the SouthWest regional section here to see if he is a Forum member. Maybe he can supply us with some pics.
Wow; am I late to the party, or what? I am not very active on the forum, but have been a member for a while. I know that so much time has passed since this thread was active, maybe this is irrelevant, but: I added the stripes myself. As far as I know, my 85 never had stripes until I added them. As for the stripes themselves, they are Prostripe Multistripes R32030. They are an uncanny match to the red in the interior. And just so no one thinks I am slacking off...

This is the new stout 383 going into my car about 2 weeks ago. Still a little ways until I fire it, but it will be soon.
