Default D98 Option Code

I just purchased Gordon Killebrews book option codes for 84 -96 Corvette. On my storage bin my 84 has a code D98. According to the book that is 'Body side accent and deck lid stripe." To my knowledge my 84 has its factory paint and there is no stripes on my car. Does anyone have such a code on their storage lid and if so can you describe the stripes?

Are you 100% sure it isn' D9B a "B" as in Bravo instead of an eight?

Yes I compared it to the other letter Bs and the other 8s on the label and it is a 8 not a B. One guy from NCRS said it could have been a option Chevrolet decided to drop. This is a early 84 so I guess that is possible. Maybe some one out there has a 84 with some kind of pin stripe which was soon dropped because it did not look right? At first I thought it might refer to the 1984 Motor Trend decal that went on the rear window on a small amount of 84s. i wonder how many other 84s have that code on there storage compartment door?

These two RPO codes are from this page:

D9B - Speedometer sensor 85007308

D98 - Speedometer sensor 25007308

If your correct then the Gordon Killebrew book has a mistake . This book is supposed to be accurate. The book does list D9B as speedo sensor 25007308 not D98. So someone is wrong. it says D98 is a side accent stripe. I tend to think the book is correct. i will send him an Email.

Gordon has no email address but I left his automation phone service a message about what I believe was a mistake in the book. NCRS is offering this book in the current issue of drive line but personally I am not so sure it was worth the $12.00 since most of the information is on line. I just thought the book would be more accurate and exhaustive.

Wow I just got a phone call from the people at Gordon Killebrews organization . I actually spoke with a person who worked on the Bowling Green assembly line who put the decal stripe D98 on early C4 Corvettes. If you have a 84 to 86 Corvette with a D98 on your cargo bin the car is suppose to have pin striping running from the hood to the rear. It was a decal and not painted. Someone who had the decal and removed it (which someone did on my car) is suppose to call me and tell me if it still available (which i doubt) but I am hoping he can send me a picture so i can try and duplicate it on my 84 which had the decal when new. If anyone does have that option on their hood and deck lid can you post it. I am told it was a rare option but it does exist. I also recommend getting the book since it has ALL the code for C4s and in the correct order.

Still waiting for the blurry images of a half-man half-beast with pin-stripes walking through the mountains of Washington State.

I just got my latest issue of Auto Enthusiast Magazine (June 2012). On page 41 there is a pic of Bruce Zimmerly's white 1985 C4 Corvette. It is pictured with two thin red pinstripes. I think this is the option you are talking about.
I will post a notice in the SouthWest regional section here to see if he is a Forum member. Maybe he can supply us with some pics.

How can there be ZERO pictures of these unmolested stripes in there original configuration on an original car?

If there's one thing Corvette people do, it's take pictures of their cars, especially when NEW.

This defies logic.

Please post them if you can as this was a option on 84 to 89 Corvettes. The stripes are still available from 3M who makes the decals for GM. Since my FSM and the people at the Killebrew organization document this option I want to be sure just where the stripes go especially around the wheel wells. Many owners took the stripes off because the tape aged or because they thought they did not belong on the car. If you have trouble posting please mail any photos to me at Ta301@aol.com. Thanks

Here's an '84 66K miles mentions (1) owner with a stripe!

Ends in 50 minutes - there's no snapshot of the SPID label but it might be interesting to ask the seller:
