You may want to upgrade to the 88-96 regulators, if your thinking about repairing those painfully slow regulators.
I didn't find that job hard, can't comment on the repair part.
With Dan here. You will be much happier with the scissor type regulators, even if you replace them one at a time. Your going to be pulling the assembly out anyway. There are new and used options.
The process isnt all that hard. As I understand it (I replaced mine with scissor types) all you have to do is drill out some rivets and replace the ribbon. Lower the window until you can disconnect it. You will have to play with the raising and lowering of the reg assy to figure out where it will come out easily. Just take the panel and plate off and look its pretty self explanatory.
I believe that the 87's came with the scissor type regulators. A search of the forum indicates that the change was in late 86. Please correct if I'm wrong.
I changed the fuel pump and it still fires just for a second and will not do it again unless it sits for hours, then still does the same thing. its driving me, this year model electricals are really something else. i just had changed the neutral safety switch two days prior and it ran good..i was in a rain storm and it just died out.. any ideas?

My 87 had the ribbon lifts, but interestingly the mounting locations for the scissor lifts were already drilled and ready when I upgraded. When I was researching this, I seem to recall that the scissor lifts were installed in some 87 verts, but not coupes.
The scissor lift were first installed in 86, I do believe some of the earlier coups still had the ribbon but all convertibles had the scissor style. I have replaced my passenger side twice, not that difficult.
I put the later window regulator in my driver's side many years ago. Then the passenger side was so glacial that I got irritated enough to do that one also.
I have an early '86 and the holes were already there in the bottom of the door. Not really a difficult job, just tedious with all the stuff you need to deal with.
