Took my 89 out for a ride today, and the driver's side power window switch popped out, I had to push down and in to get it to work. Before I sit out in the heat and pull it apart, am I going to need to replace the damned thing or is it there a bubba fix for it?
And while I was out, one of the blose speakers in the rear blew out. I have a rebuilt spare front amp, can I swap that in it's place or is there any difference front to rear?
thanks

Is the '89 switch like the previous years? 84-88?
If so, then the switch itself is a 2-piece switch with a wire spring holding the switchback with the wires onto the switchfront that holds the toggle button and contacts. Then the whole switch assembly is held in the console plate by a curved flatspring. You have to undo and lift the console top plate to get to the switch access. I had a lovely time replacing mine.
Thanks for the replies. I'm not looking forward to taking that console off, I had it off before and it's a PIA.
As for the amp, I also have a spare rear but it needs rebuilding. Not a big deal.
My switch came apart and I saw that the plastic was distorted. It wouldn't stay together so I just replaced it.
It passes a LOT of current so the wires are really heavy. It's VERY difficult to get the connector off the back. I have found out through personal experience that the fuse will blow when you short out the contacts while prying on it with a screwdriver...
Wow...this is timely. My '86 has had a bad passenger side window switch since I got it three years ago. Tonight while drying the pan under the passenger side seat (torrential rain in Boston today and I discovered a leak where the convert top meets the door) I found a replacement switch under the seat...guess the prior owner bought one and lost it under the seat. After checking several parts places, I have confirmed that it is the right switch.
My question: what is involved in replacing the switch? I see a couple screws on the flat part of the console...is that it? Or do I need to take off any part of the dash to get to the plate that covers the console?
Another question: I noticed that on the dashboard around the instrument cluster, the screw holes have cracks radiaiting out from the center of the hole...not big cracks...maybe a sixteenth of an inch. Could this happen with age? or do you think that someone might have taken off the dash and overtightened the screws resulting in the cracks?
I think there's a couple of screws on the end, inside the glove box, and you might have to loosen the bottom of the panel around the climate control. I forget off the top of my head. I'll find out after the part arrives. You might have to take the top of the shifter off to pull the panel up enough to get to the switch, but I'm hoping to get away without that.
The cracks could be from either or both of those reasons.
