you'll find that most L98's get as much as 26-30 MPG on the highway. Less of course around town

First of all, being not much of a gear head and somewhat new to the forum, I had no idea what a touchy subject I had brought up when I mentioned the great thermostat/proper running temperature of an L98 controversy. I've been reading about it a lot and apparently there are two firmly entrenched camps arguing at each other over years of heated threads. Passionate stuff! I am in the "I like my car to run cooler than stock" camp by the way.
Yeah, my car can't touch 26 MPG. If an average of 16 is the cost of the cooling mods, I'll live with it if the mods to my car help it keep the Hotlanta summer from blowing the head gasket or whatever else. The stop and go driving and temperatures here killed my beautuful '91 300SE a couple years ago. It needed a new head, not just the gasket...what a tragedy!
Regarding RFS: anybody else seen that episode of Top Gear where an M3 gets better gas mileage than a Prius when driven hard on their track? A great example of how important driving style is. And i suspect that my driving style may be contributing more to my average of 16 MPG than the 160 thermostat and all.
