94 LT1, 70,000 miles. It was 101 out side and coolant temp was running 235 in town and 220 on highway with ac on. Is that normal? Seemed close to max temp of around 260. Checked antfreeze with guage and showed OK.
It seems my 73 vette would always shift down when I crammed the pedal to the floor, any reason my 94 does sometimes and sometimes not?
When I was in Bowling Green KY a couple of weeks ago it was BRUTALLY hot...105 on Fri, 109 Sat and 106 on Sun. I went for a 2 hour cruise on Saturday with the ac blowing of course, and highway temps hovered around 210-215, but in town it shot up to around 228 to 230. Once I got to slightly cooler regions on the way home it stayed at 194 like usual. I'm thinking it may in part be the design of the car. Even on nice days around here (nw iowa) it can get up to 205 or so just puttering around town.
Cleaned up radiator with 2.00 at car wash. Really hard to get in there, found a gap on passenger side you could see with a flashlight. Drove in103 heat. No higher than 218 so I fell pretty happy with it. Guess I sucked up some birds nest driving. Thanks for help
Vette 2100,
Your cooling system mods sound very similar to my car. I also have 160 degree thermostat, and my auxiliary fan kicks in at 175. I've been told that my 1985 was designed to run at 191, but with the updates, it rarely gets above 180 unless I'm idling in traffic with the A/C on.

I did some research on water weter products. Found lots of complaints about gelling and clogged radiators. And you would have to change it for cold weather.
1. Honestly, the previous owner had this setup and I kept it. The car also has an updated chip and exhaust. It goes into closed loop like it should when warmed up. The car idles smoothly and gets a respectable 16 mpg. I don't exactly drive with fuel efficiency in mind. I figure if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
2. I also think I was traumatized by all the overheating issues I've had with past cars, namely a '91 300SE. Come to Atlanta in summer and you'll understand. Maybe I'm a little too afraid of high temps, but I think that if it runs above 160 at the very lowest that's not cold enough to cause problems.

16 mpg, I would not call respectable.
Not very good at all

EPA data for a stock 85 coupe says 15 city and 21 highway. Since my car is not stock (I think it performs better) and is still right in line with those numbers, I don't think I'm doing too bad. What kind of fuel economy do you get in your car? Is yours an L98?
