You can open those doors and be proud.
Great job & way to go with 2nd place.

Did you replace the console lid? It looks new, also.

Nope, that's the original console lid that came with the car! I shot it with the interior dye 5 years ago to see if the stuff worked and its held up nicely. The only other thing I needed to do to the lid was replace the broken spring and the bulb.

Nice job! It's funny, I just did mine, too - red car with saddle interior and your pictures of the console sides and seat belt receivers being painted look so much like mine I thought they were mine!

My seat belts look faded now, more so that the rest looks so good. I totally cleaned them, too. Maybe Rit dye?

Someone had mentioned Simple Green for the seat belts. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm planning on it. If it doesn't come as clean as I'd like, then I will be on the lookout for a "new" set, maybe in black and I'll dye the housing that mounts to the floor saddle.

The front was what Willcox called "poly-backed" which is basically a thin plastic coating on the underside of the carpet. The rear "mass-backed" has a thin rubber pad attached to the underside of the carpet. I was installing Dynamat in the front and it was suggested that the poly-back would make for a better fit when using the Dynamat.

Its funny, when I look back at what the interior used to look like, I wonder how I lived with it that way for so long. I went "new" with the weatherstripping on the doors, windshield and rear window (still need to do the halo), the visors, the carpet and rounded it out with new mats. I had found used door panels and seats from a low mileage C4 in the same color saving me a lot of money and at the same time, the patina of those "original" parts sits well with the rest of the car. The remaining interior parts were either cleaned or re-dyed to the original color so everything matches and looks consistent. I just need a shifter **** to complete it and i'm thinking of wrapping some of the plastic trim in carbon fiber or something else to help it stand out.

I owe a lot to the members of this forum and reading about their experiences and using their tips to get the job done. Thanks fellas!

Here are some of the pics:

With the side panels off, the console skeleton is visible. It was in good shape with no broken tabs, etc. The floor was clean as well.

[IMG][/IMG]

Console side piece removed, cleaned of glue (Goo Gone works great btw) and ready for dying:

Seat belt receiver getting a refresh:

Re-dyed console side:

I purchased the poly backed carpets and installed Dynamat on the floor boards. It makes a difference, the road noise is minimal now. The foam on the center console was in amazing shape so I left it alone, I just trimmed around it for the Dynamat install:

[IMG][/IMG]

Test fitting the carpet:
[IMG][/IMG]

Driver's side carpet installed over the Dynamat, an almost perfect fit, just a little trimming was required up by the gas pedal:

[IMG][/IMG]

Side panel installed without carpet. I used the yellow trim adhesive after reading some of the posts of prior installs and it worked great:

Passenger side seat belt receiver and side panel refresh:

[IMG][/IMG]

I used Dynamat on the passenger side floor board as well, but didn't take any pics, I was on a roll and didn't stop. The passenger side required additional trim in the footwell once the side panel carpet was installed. All in all, I only needed to trim about an inch. I am very impressed with the carpets Willcox supplied.

Here is the completed interior, minus the new mats:

Driver's side with new mats (made from the same company that made the carpets);

Passenger side:

Now, anyone have any suggestions on how to clean the seat belt fabric?
Wow.. this looks great! Good job and what a professional looking finished product.

Thanks! I kept seeing great interior restorations on this forum and that's what inspired me to get it done. It was most rewarding and I kind of got the new car smell back. I have a few things left to do to complete it though. I need new speaker covers, front and back, new shifter ****, clean or replace the seat belts and install a boot over the parking brake level to refresh that.

I've seen the posts where the plastic trim has been wrapped in carbon fiber and I really like that idea. I might use a brushed black metal look wrap on mine.

If anyone wants a cheap and quick fix on their nasty old carpet I have a set out of a 96. It's beige. The rear cargo piece is in good shape as is the piece that goes behind the seat and trans tunnel. I just want to get rid of it and help fund my current project so it will be cheap. pm me for pics. I have used wilcox for 2 vettes so far and both carpet sets fit good and I would recommend them. I also used dynamat on one vette and my recent one I used Home depot duct insulation. works just as well and way cheaper. It comes in a roll and sticks right on. nice job and the carpet and good luck to everyone getting ready to do this. remember to post pics
