Anyone have any input/experience with selling their C4's to Carmax? I have a 1995 C4 with 79k that I'm considering selling to Carmax. Any estimates on how much I would get for it? Any input is appreciated, thanks.
I would never go into Carmax with the expectation of making decent money on selling a car. I sold an 86 porsche 944 a couple years ago to them for 750. At that point I was just happy to get rid of it before it gave me more problems and ended up costing me more. Carmax is almost like a last resort if you can't sell it privately and just have to have a vehicle gone and some cash in your pocket. However I really like the no hassle thing and they were a very friendly professional dealership so I would definitely consider buying a car from them.
I was C6 shopping recently and went to carmax to look. They had a great 3LT with z51 package and the nav system. So i was like what the hell, let them appraise my '88 vert which is near new condition. (59,500 miles atm) They offered me 4k. Not a chance I said, and drove my C4 Home.
I had it for sale locally but for now any way have decided to stay in the C4 game.
I agree with most of the above. They wholesale out about 50% of the cars they take in, including almost all of the older ones. We just sold them a 2009 Cadillac SRX and they gave us the Trade In Value basically, but that was OK with us. They also will not even consider taking in any car that has been modified to any extent. On our Caddy we had 20" rims. They docked our price since they would not sell it without first putting stock wheels and tires on it. I wasn't sure if I believed them since the 20" wheels and tires looked so much better. But sure enough, they went back to stock wheels and tires before putting it on the market.
Remember it is a business and they have to profit.
Yeah thats the truth but somewhere down the line their profit percentage has gone crazy. It isnt enough to make a couple of hundred bucks anymore. Kinda like watching Pawn Stars, if they cant double their money they dont buy.
If they were just gonna wholesale it right back out tho they prolly wouldnt make $4K but you could bet there would be a "K" somewhere!
