Rebuild your engine maybe upgrade to a 383cubic inch
Any engine builder should be able to do it to your 350 block, they are pretty common place now. put your money in that and perhaps get AFR 195 heads a mild camshaft and mini ram and you will have more horsepower than most crate engines which are not that cheap. remember a tpi setup on a 500 hp crate engine will restrict it a fair bit. There are plenty on this forum who have posted their 383 builds with very impressive quarter mile times 11 sec quarters
Do your research before committing of course.
Check out Summit or Jegs. They have the largest variety to choose from, and usually have the best prices. You can find a crate motor to fit any application and any price range your looking for.
My brother just dropped a 502 in his Camaro, 500hp right out of the box. Added a carb and headers and back on the street in a weekend.
For waht I wanted to do with my '79 Vette, it was cheaper to buy a turnkey ZZ4 Performance engine than to rebuild the L48. On top of the better price for all new components, it came with a 15,000 mile, one year warrenty. On top of that, I still have the original (although old and tired) engine.
I'd go for a decent new crate engine over doing a rebuild, especially if you're going to be putting money into new heads, new cam, bore and stroking.
When I decided to put a LS3 in my '92, the builder and I researched our alternatives and finally went with the LS3 Hot Cam (GMPP LS376/480 Hot Cam). Even though GM considered it a race engine, it came with a 2 year 24,000 mile warranty (which I of course never had to use). I have no complaints about the crate engine or the kit. The build was completed 2 years ago and with the current set up and tune it is putting out 429 rwhp and 442 rwtq as measured on a loaded dyno, with my 700R4, dana 36 and 3.73 gears. If you can afford it, go with GMPP.
