Sprayed water on wires — no "4th of July" — wires GOOD!
6th gear under load — assuming Opti GOOD!
But, I can smell fumes reeking from somewhere — strange?
Purchased MAP Sensor. Looking to purchase MAF & possibly
an IAT sensors too, if necessary. One of the 2 appears to be
very expensive.
Still concerned about the smelling of the fumes — anyone have
a clue?
I would check the fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose to see if it is sucking fuel out of the fuel press reg. If I remember correctly, you were running a blower also. I would make sure the fresh air intake hose for the opti is out of the pressurized path, and the vacuum hose has a check valve it it.

There is also a vapor charcoal canister and relay/valve for gas tank fumes but I really don't know how that system works. Just know it will stink up the joint if it doesn't purge correctly. Maybe somebody else here knows how to check that.
Just a note, just because wires pass the water test, doesn't neccessarily mean they're good. The coductors inside can "wear out" over time and not conduct as well as when new, reducing spark. They can also crack, which greatly reduces the amount of charge going to plug, and may even cause misfire.
FPR is a good chance as well. Symptoms, of course if there's fuel in the vacuum line, as well as a long crank situation at start up. Sometimes appearing as a misfire, with backfires through the intake and white smoke from raw fuel as the ignition fights through the extra juice in the cylinder.
Ignition coil module, and coil are common culprits at this age as well.

Thanks for the reply. '94 starts right away as usual. Runs normally for a while, then a noticeable sputtering — especially in the high gears. No
real problem after increasing to high rpms /speeds.?? I did replace the
MAP Sensor as a start. Thanks again.
