Well, I bought my first Corvette about 2 months ago. 1993 with 90k miles. It had been sitting for awhile so it needs some TLC. In Maryland you can apply for historic tags when a car is 20yrs. old or older so I'm waiting until January to get me tags.
BUT I'M GETTING IMPATIENT BECAUSE I WANT TO DRIVE MY CAR !!!

Just wanted to vent.
Thanks
I live in MD as well. I got my 93 vert two years ago so it made sense to get tags right away, but the Historic tags DO save you some money!!
I think they exempt you from emissions testing too. That's no small advantage when driving a 93 LT1.
Enjoy driving your Vette when you get the tags. I hope its not snowing when January 1 rolls around!

I just recently bought an 87 Corvette and registered it today and got the historic plates. They have to be 25 years or older here.
You do know that with Historic tags you will be restricted to what you can use the car for right?? There's even a part about not using it to primarily haul passengers on the highway.....Is it really worth it???.WW
This is taken from the Maryland DMV website....
To qualify as a historic vehicle, your vehicle must not have been substantially altered, remodeled, or remanufactured from its original design, and must be a passenger vehicle, motorcycle or truck (with a GVWR of 10,000 pounds or less) and is 20 calendar years or older. The vehicle owner will certify the vehicle will be maintained for use in exhibitions, club activities, parades, tours, occasional transportation and similar uses. The vehicle owner further certifies the vehicle will not be used for general daily transportation or primarily for the transportation of passengers or property on highways. You will need to fill out the Application for Historic or Street Rod Registration (form # VR-096).
In MN Collector plates are available for a vehicle 20 years old. You must show proof of ownership of at least one additional MN currently licensed vehicle. Driving is to be for 'collector' purposes only-not for general transportation. You may purchase one or two plates, so 'Vettes can legally run a rear only in our two-plate state. No yearly fee for tabs/stickers, etc. a one time purchase. Personalized plates can be purchased for $100.
The rules are similar here in WI. No mods, They wanted pictures. One time fee. 25 years old min. They say this can not be your primary vehicle. Not allowed on the road the entire month of January which is not a big deal. I will drive it this winter but only when the pavement is dry.
The restrictions aren't as bad here in KY. I probably will only put 3 to 4000 miles a year on this car. I have another car that just sits in the garage and a daily driver.
