His Story:
Last Tuesday when I got home from an all-day meeting in Toronto, I noticed that my wife’s Corvette was not in the driveway. I thought: oh, she must be out running errands. Then as I got up to the house I saw that the lights were on and she was home. So I thought: hhhmmmm she must have taken the car into the shop and it as staying overnight. It likes to do that……..a lot.
So when I got inside, I asked so where’s your car?
The answer: It’s gone.
Me: What do you mean it’s gone.
The answer: It burned to the ground…………it’s gone.
Turns out she was not kidding or exaggerating when I saw it the next day. It is well and truly burnt…….the whole car is burnt.
It started as an engine fire when she started it after sitting at a coffee shop for a half hour or so. Within a couple of minutes the entire car was burning. She very very slightly singed her legs scrambling out of it.
This car was her pride and joy and she was really really attached to it. It was ordered new and we had it for 18 years. We had zero intentions of ever parting from it.

Damn. First off, I'm glad to hear your wife is ok. Seems we are seeing more and more of this happening lately for whatever reason. Sorry for the loss of what sounds like was a nice C4. The insurance check should help to put a smile back on your wife's face, then go out and get yourselves another.
I've notice lots of c4's catching fire over the years glad I upgraded
Really has more to do with them being "old cars".
And not so much being a C4.
99.9% of the time it turns out to be some kind of fuel leak.
Old fuel lines and 0-rings deteriorate over time, and some should have been replaced before leaking.
I feel for you, I lost my old car to fire in an accident last year. Damage from the wreck would have been repairable I think. Bur not when fire was done...

Quoted for TRUTH. Especially the L98 cars seem to have lots of fuel leak issues. I replaced EVERY o ring on my 93 this past winter just to be safe.
I do mean everyone of them, except for the ones inside the braided lines that attach to the fuel inlet. Not sure how one would replace those and the rubber lines back at the tank. Again, not possible to replace separate from the metal lines.
I'm not too worried about a fuel leak back at the tank less likely to cause a fire. The engine compartment is another story. I have a fire extinguisher in my car for a reason. These cars are 28 to 16 years old.
That's a shame! Why do things always happen to great cars like Vettes. I have a whole list of crappy cars that I couldn't care less if not one burned but a bunch of theme.
Very sad. Hope you guys can get another one just as great.
I know if something like that happened to mine or if it got wrecked over here I know that I wouldn't be able to afford another one for quite some time if ever...
Horrible, very sorry for your Loss, but thankfully your Wife is ok..
a lesson for all of us to make sure we do the preventative maintenance, or at least
have a look at fuel lines, o-rings etc. for their condition.
Best to you both, I hope you find a replacement soon..
