hi all,
got a question... i got a 89 and was wondering if it is normal that the cooling fan comes on when you turn your key to the first stage[excessories]. this is when the can hasnt been ran at all, cold...
i'm having electrical problems with my car and i just noticed when i went to start my car yesterday and tuned the key to the first position the fan came on and ran... just doesnt seem right to me. i would expect it to if the car was hot from running but this is at a cold state...

thanks for input....good day!!!!
is your air conditioner in the on position? try turning your A/C to the off position and fan off.
yes it has auto climate control.... as for the airconditioning, im not talking about the blower fan, im talking about the electric cooling fan on the radiator...
Not sure about the '89, but on mine, the radiator fans kick on when I put the A/C in the ON position. I use that a lot when I'm coming home through the neighborhood after a drive because it keeps the engine temp from going so high before I go back into the garage.

and that's what i was talking about - if i have this right - when you turn the key on, and if the A/C in in max cool mode with the blower switch in any high to low position, the radiator cooling fan should come on regardless of the engine temperature. as i said, "IF I HAVE THIS RIGHT".

But only if the engine is actually running.
Just turning the key to the "on" position should not cause the cooling fans to come on.
At least it does not in my '96 (even if the electronic A/C is on).
Of course, once you start the car and the A/C compressor is turning, the cooling fans will/should come on.
The fan should not come on in "RUN"
The ECM will turn on fan when coolant temp reaches about 222* or AC head pressure is greater than 233 psi. If it hasn't been running, I doubt your AC pressure is above 233 psi.
If the connector to that AC switched is not plugged in, this will cause the fan to operate with ignition in "RUN".
Also, some trouble codes will cause the fan to operate. Is the SES light on in info panel ?
Did the previous owner install a manual fan switch or rewire it ?
