Does anyone have information about the possible problem?

Then your lucky, and gentle pumping of the pedal may bleed it --- look for bubbles to confirm air in hose and slave are floating to the top.
However, given the age it might instead be the slave and/or master which is failing.
If so, slave is relatively easy to do, master is a bit of a pain, but still doable with just some basic tools and a flexible back.
The bigger challenge will be finding the replacements. About a year ago I was able to find a really good quality cast slave made by PBR at the local Driver/FX autoparts shop, but this year when I realized I also needed a master, it was only available at NAPA.
As to bleeding, try bench bleeding the slave (and master) and be careful with the hose between master and slave, hear it is no longer available, but absent of reverse bleeding techniques, old fasion bleeding does work, just watch as the quantity of fluid in the master is small, so very easy to run it dry while bleeding (I found 3-4 bleeds, then refill worked).
