C4 head lights

Even with the new silverstars my headlights are FEEBLE wWhat sucks worse than stock C4 headlights?
So things that suck worse than C4 headlights.....
Being the owner of the red with black roof C6 vert thats broken on the side of the I10
Red Dot by overpass is a nice looking c6 vert sitting all alone on the shoulder..

It was a beautiful looking car. But I know that being on the side of the road sucks worse than C4 headlights.
According to all the threads in the C6 section Z06 exhaust valves may actually be worse than C4 headlights
Hopefully its wasn't this C6 issue

I have since upgraded to the HID hi/lo type that fit the Hella H4's
they are 55 watt 4,300k. You can get them in 4,300k white 6,000k diamond white or 8,000k blue tint colors in 35 or 55 watt range.
They are around 300x brighter then H4 and cheap
The correct use of HID lights are in projector light assemblies, but the h4 hi/lo light conversion has a metal shroud around the globe that concentrates the light output to work with the original H4 lenses. That way you do not blind other drivers, if your headlights are aimed correctly.
When driving at night it is obvious who has HID lights as they are so much brighter and make even H4 lights look yellowish and pale.

Where did you source the Hella H4 headlights in Australia?
I drove my C4 for the first time yesterday morning to work before the sun came up. I was shocked at how bad the stock headlights are....
.....maybe I'm just used to the lights on my FG XR6 daily driver?I actually think the original 7 inch sealed beam headlights on my 1971 Firebird might be better than the Vette..

If you change over to H4's do they draw more current and therefore require changes to the wiring and/or relays?
I reckon I need to try what you've done with your lights.
Thanks,
Ken D

The rectangular headlights the vette uses are a common size, i purchased the Hella H4 ones as they were the glass type some 10 or more years ago.
The plastic type will loose shape with high wattage lights, with H4 lights you can use the standard wattage 55/65 H4 globes.
Or go with 90 watt low beam 130 watt high (what Police cars use), and 100w low 140w high H4 globes. Now they were really good but the HID 55 watt ones are 300 times brighter, and they do not have the filaments that tend to break when closing the headlight doors without allowing the globes to cool down. HID doesn't get affected by this HOWEVER HID upgrades are not legal mainly due to people who do not fit them correctly use the blue color range or align the lights.
In Australia you are only allowed to use the white lights, anything that can be looked at being emergency vehicle lights will get you a ticket. So go to the H4 first and later you can always get a HID hi/lo conversion kit.
The current is not a problem as the corvettes already have the relays for the lights in the engine bay.
The parts shops tend to have the cheap plastic lights nowadays, so you may need to look for the good glass type at a 4x4 off road shop.
I think you need the 7'' x 5'' (200mm x 142mm) that is just a guess so measure your lights first.
The 55w HID hi/lo conversion kit that will connect into your H4 type lights are around $60-$80 here in Australia complete with ballasts wire harness and 4,300k (white)or 6,000k (diamond white) or 8,000k (blue) range lights i used the 4,300k ones.
Remember you need Australian lights for r/h drive the internal reflectors are different for l/h drive cars. Also cheap lights may not have good reflectors and not as bright even with the high wattage H4 lamps.
Cheers
Gerard

NOW I UNDERSTAND why everybody is nutso over the HIDs. YOU NEED THESE!!!!
I looked into HIDs for the '86 several years ago and they were at least $500 at the time. I didn't think it was worth that much. Now they are a lot cheaper, so it's time to reconsider.

WHAT DID I EVER DO TO DESERVE THIS?????
