First thing I'm gonna do to my '88 next week when I take delivery is get all the fluids changed. I've been over, under and all around the car and can't find any visible leaks. It's an automatic, with 60k miles.
Recommend any specific brands? Do "quick lube" places carry synthetic transmission and rear fluids, or will I have to bring my own?
I have an 88 and I use Mobil Synthetic ATF, Mobil Synthetic Diff Fluid (I also use Redline Synthetic Diff Fluid), Redline Synthetic Power Steering fluid and Motul 600 Synthetic Brake Fluid.
I've used 10w-30 Valvoline Max-Life in my 85 (it has 112,000 miles on it) in addition to Valvoline Max-Life Dexron III trans fluid when I changed the trans filter. The car idles more smoothly and runs better. As far as synthetic motor oil goes, If you do alot of driving, I'd stick with the conventional oil. The main thing is to change your oil frequently. Enjoy your Vette! :chevy

Suggestions, experiences welcome.

Suggestion is for you to do your own fluid changes. Do you really trust a kid who probably drives a POS with your baby? Become one with the vette :yesnod:
MOJO, you had someone else touch your baby? Go over to the post on GS lowering I had a question for you. :seeya
Yeah, sucks when you have to work, besides he is an ASE mechanic has his own lift and hardly charged me. What would have taken me a week, he did in 6 hours
Much easier to bring it to him than lay on your back to drop a tranny and rear.

Re: Synthetic fluids? (JCAIRE2)
I have had good luck with the Jiffy Lube near me - yea I know everyone thinks they suck but they take as good of care with the car as I would. I watch them like a hawk each time and all went well.
I didn't do synthetic for the differential or transmission fluid changes, but I did change to Mobil 1 for oil. I have no new problems showing up with the synthetic oil.
OBTW - do a full transmission fluid change. It takes a lot of fluid but it will be worth it.
I would stay away from any 'quick lube' place ! Those idiots know nothing about what they're doing. I bet they don't know what synthetic oil is due to the fact that they don't make any money off it. A friend in high school worked at one and he stold everthing he could out of the cars. Scary! Synthetic oil is the way to go though.
I have a 4+3. Just changed the fluids to synthetic. Engine has been Mobil 1 for ever. Used Valvoline synthetic gear lube in the tranny gearbox. Used Valvoline synthetic ATF in the overdrive as well. Brake fluid was flushed last year using synthetic also. Next is the diff when I get a chance. Guess what I will put in that?
