wow what a cool car that is,a freind has a 99FRC and let me drive it,we were out crising for about 45 minutes and i had a blast, now if i could just figure out the shifter :D .i am used to an auto but i would love to have a six speed  i love my C4 though and won't be selling it anytime soon.
maybe someday i will get a second vette.
C-5's, what year did they get it right?
Oil ring problems, steering lockup, rear end burn up, run flats.
No thanks, the more you really look at them the more problems you'll discover.
Besides all of the problems they're still ugly. How do they drive those cars with broken arms? They never wave.
C-4's are the last of the real cars. C-5's are toys for the monied gentry.
The C-6 will be worse.
I'm hoping Mr. Lutz will not allow that to happen. With the way Corvette is doing in the ALMS series and LeMans 24, I think he will make sure some of that is brought to the showroom.
I recall back when my 1990 was the 2nd baddest car on the road only bettered by the infant ZR1, in fact I had not laid eyes on one until '92. Back in Dec '89, 90, 91...I NEVER EVER EVER, AND I MEAN NOT EVEN (get the point never) waved back...I thought that I was hot poopie. I knew nothing about the heritage that led to the wave so I was like smiling within but flashing the  whenever a earlier model Corvette owner would throw me the wave. Now I use it sparingly I must admit, if I get a clear view of a driver I'll wave, and rarely do I get a wave back...I just think back to the good old days and keep on driving in style.
C5's are cool, roomier cars, I'd love to own one....but the Chevy Avelanche must come first.
I love my C4, its a fun car but I believe we are being a little harsh here on the C5...

The C4 was far from flawless, In fact after 12 years it could be said they still didnt get it right. Heres a few things that come to mind...
Optispark, 4+3, VAT's, removable roof, run flats...
I would have to say all things considered the C5 is one heck of a car. I can't think of another car I would rather carry on the Corvette nameplate and tradition!

Can we get this post transfered over to the C5 section? I bet those guys would have fun ripping this apart...
I know some of those guys, they're sure not "the monied gentry". And I'm guessing a lot of those cars will end up with as many miles as the highest of the C4s. I love my 93, but I plan to park a C5 beside it someday. Maybe a Z06....
 I have not had the privelage of driving a C5 yet. Drove a buddies 2001 Z28 and LOVED the LS1, I am in the market for a 97 white 6sp. Going to keep my '85 though and be a two Corvette owner :D ...is that against the law?
Drive a 96 with a Grand Sport engine...GS, CE, or just the 6spd.... then drive a C5 and tell me which you like better. I wasnt impressed much with the C5. It looks nice but I couldnt "feel" it, like the GS. Anyone know what im talking about? :yesnod:

I drove a 2000 6-speed in Bowling Green at the Cruise-in and I have to say I could feel it. I love my LT4 and it is no doubt the finest of the C4's (except maybe the 93-95 ZR1's) but I would take the C5 over my car anyday.

One of the funniest things I've read in awhile. Just read the C-4 Tech section.
The C-4 is one of the crappiest quality cars in recent history... and I own one of the most trouble free models. I'm actually amazed that my Vette only suffers from cheap GM plastic and associated wear items (like seat covers- replaced, headliner- showing signs of detachment, cheap carpet, etc). I bought it (as a former mechanic) thinking it would be fun to fix. I'm sure it won't disappoint.
Mechanically, and amazingly electronically, I've been impressed. Normally for a GM product, the details have been of little concern.

Why do you find it necessary to trash the C5? It is a Corvette, you know.
I've driven an automatic C5 and a Z06 and find them both to be great cars.
As far as quality of the C4 is concerned, see a post of mine from about 3 weeks ago detailing the problems I've had with mine. If it wasn't a Corvette, I would have gotten rid of it a long time ago. I still might, once I get it back from the body shop (slight damage from accident).
Oh, and knock off the class warfare crap. Most of the "monied gentry" have earned it.
BlueWasp....someone knows what I'm talking about :)
Yes, most corvettes are nice, just some are more desirable to others....but thats each individuals preference and opinion. People look for different things when they buy a car. Of course the ZR1 and GS's are the best(and some of those 427's of course)....(did I just set a fire???) oh yeah....IMHO :)
