Default VIN decoding

As I understand it GM built both F and Y body cars, indicated by the fourth character in the VIN, the first five characters of mine are 1G1VY ,
does that sound right? so what does that make mine? im confused..

Drivers side top of the instrument panel for late model Corvette's or windshield post (A-pillar) for earlier models.

Only a guess,but I'd say that it's really YY,and just didn't print plain..I don't know if your looking on your registration,or title,or the car....

lots of interesting info there, thanks! having just checked the registration document with the actual number on the car it does appear to be a Y, the fault is on the paperwork.. will have to get that sorted out next week!

Yep,just checked the car, deffo YY! lesson for today "never trust official documents"
