The rear speaker is starting to act up in my 92. It gives feedback. The question I have is that is it better to get the bose speaker repaired or just get a whole new system.
I just went through this but both rears were bad. I replaced the entire system with pioneer double din touch screen and new speakers. I am much happier with this set up and the sound is alot better than what the 21 year old bose will ever have. I kept the old system just in case down the road I sell the car.
It depends - some people want to keep their car as close to stock as possible. Others, like me, don' t really care about stock.
In your case if one speaker is going the rest aren't far behind. If you are handy with a soldering iron, you can replace the capacitors pretty cheaply and repair the speaker amps. But you will still have old stereo technology.
For me, I felt it was easier and better to replace with a Pioneer single din HD radio with CD, USB and auxiliary input. I put in four new speakers and wired it all up. It sounds better than the Bose and I loaded up a flash drive with about 1500 songs - takes awhile to hear the same song again.
I just went through this with my 94 and since everything else was great on the Bose system I just took the amps out and sent them to Dr Don's and got the amps rebuilt.
You can't replace the system for what it costs to rebuild the amps.
I am not an "audiophile" and the Bose system sounds great to me,especially compared to my mono am/fm in my 72 Corvette.
