So my windshield cracked today. I'm scared to make an insurance claim incase they write my car off. I'm not sure how insurance works for everyone else, but where I live in Canada if the repair costs more then the value of the car, it will be a write off. How much does a windshield cost? Obviously I can't get a new one. How much is the value of a 1990 coupe?

why don't you research it? There are a million places online that will quote you instantly
It certainly won't be so much that it costs more than the car is worth
A decent '90 should be worth anywhere from $5K to maybe even as much as $10K in USD. I can't believe a replacement windshield with labor and other parts would cost that much. A good windshield should run around $300.
Look for a shop that has experience with Corvette windshield replacement. If they don't know what they are doing, you could have some real problems. If you can't find a shop like that, it may be worth heading into the US and finding a shop with experience in Corvette windshield work. YOu may find a much lower price and you save on taxes.
And ask for quality glass, not the cheap Chinese stuff.

We don't really have any shops in my city that work with Corvettes, minus the dealers. When I make a claim I don't have a say on what parts they order. I just just afraid of the price of the windshield and the shipping to get it here. Once I make a claim it's mostly out of my hands. Our car insurance is ran by the government. Thanks for the reply guys, I feel better.

One of the Corvette owners here in our West Michigan group install windshields for a living. Let me dig up his name and I will send you a PM. He does work on the side for his friends but obviously lives too far away.
He can give you some knowledgeable advice though.
Took mine to Speedy Auto Glass. Paid them the $200 insurance deductible and they took care of it.
Check you insurance coverage. It's not going to right off your car.

That's who I'm going to call tomorrow. I have a $200 deductible too. Was just worried with the age of the car and having to find a windshield and the trim. Thanks guys.
I was just quoted $1250 by a Corvette shop to replace the windshield, trim, weatherstrip, etc the right way, but all the trim wasn't available. Safelight quoted $400 for the windshield and an aftermarket seal on a convertible. I decided to try the epoxy repair first to see how it does. The one weather strip that goes around the windshield and a-pillars is almost $500 for gm if you can find it.
Here in Australia My insurance has windscreen cover, i copped block of wood that spat out from under a car missed the hood and cracked my windscreen around six years ago. Got a brand new one fitted no questions asked and a call to make sure i was happy, and best of all did not impact my rating.
Can claim one windscreen per year... very generous insurance cover, that is why i have stayed with them so many years.
Had mine replace a month ago... total $916.00
Glass was least expensive ($150), new seal was around $540, and took 2 weeks to get!
Safelite did the work for my insurance company...
Good luck with yours
