That's redneck french for "oh crap". A couple weeks ago I cut through the tendon in the back of my left hand that operates my index finger. I've had surgery and it's healing well. However, I can't do much wrenching or anything for that matter. The other day the 700R4 in my 90 vert laied down on me leaving me with only 1st and 2nd gear and even with 2.73 gears, I had to drive slowly. My buddy has a shop with a lift so I took it to him to drop the tranny so I could take it to my transmission guy. Everything was going well till they dropped it off the tranny jack and broke it. Now I'm looking for a fresh 700R4 or a rebuildable one. They're available, it just sucks that I lost my numbers matching tranny. I mostly deal in collectable Mopars and "numbers matching" is about 1/3 of the value. I don't see that being as big a deal in a 90 C4 but in my mind it is. I'm not mad at my buddy, he was trying to help me out. It sucks, but things happen, it's life. How do you guys see this affecting the value of the car though?

Won't affect the cars value, if possible get an 89 or newer corvette trans core. Stay away from earlier ones as they are no where near as strong as the later years, the later ones had many refinements and weak spots taken care of.
I got good news from my tranny guy. He said we would just tig it up and it'll be good as new. The bell housing is where it broke and it's a clean brake. I was thinking this would be doable but I was glad to hear him say it with such ease. Very reasuring. I'm going to pick it up in a bit and get the ball rolling.
I got a "new" (all new guts in a refurb'd case) trans from GM with a 3 year 100K warranty in December for $1,600. Pretty tough to beat that deal. Just a thought.
This is getting to be like a soap opera. After the tranny guy saw it he decided it was broken too bad to weld. Rather it wouldn't be cost effective. He had a 89-93 700R4 case that he thinks will work and just use my guts and new parts. Tune in for the next episode of "as the tranny turns."
