I recently got longtube headers (and catless extensions) from Exotic Muscle for my 1992; they're mild steel but ceramic coated. I'm having a shop put them in for me and I'd like to give them some tips that are particular to the LT1 because they are not a Corvette-exclusive shop.
I remember reading something about the coolant temperature sensor (the one on the side of the block, analog gauge) being in the way and frequently getting broken when removing the manifolds. Any other things that they should be aware of?
EGR, AIR, and the cats are being removed; I already have the block-off plates and a chip from pcmforless so I don't throw codes (hopefully)
If the shop has done header installs before, they should know what they will encounter. Shouldn't matter if they did Camaros, Mustangs, MoPars or whatever. A competent tech will watch for anything in the way and make sure nothing gets broken during the removal and install process.
But check up front to make sure everything is OK. Go over exactly what you want with the service writer and if you feel it's necessary, have him look at everything with you before work starts.
Its been a long time since I installed my ems but I believe drivers side motor mount bolt gets flipped around. One I put in from the top and the other from the bottom. other than the bolt it was simple. I cut an inch out my air pipe IOT get it to fit perfectly (welded it back together) other folks just bend it. In hindsight I should have deleted the egr and the air from the beginning. (like you are doing) Good exhaust gaskets will make your EM headers painfree to live with. I installed mine in early 2005 and so far I haven't experienced a header leak with them.
Thanks for the responses. I'll do some more research to make sure it is in fact the driver's side motor mount bolt that gets flipped. I believe you reuse one of the header bolts too, the one that has all the AC/alternator brackets connected to it.

Let us know how the install went and post some pics if you can.
