Default OEM vrs. Repop

Here is a good representation of the difference in a repop 96 Window Guide and the OEM one, not only in thickness of the plastic, but the felt as well.

Did your repop window guide come with felt installed? The last two I bought were just the plastic guide, with no felt or anything lining the plastic.

I figured it would wear extremely quickly without that felt, so I went to a local upholstery shop and found some felt that looked like what GM used originally.

Sometimes the repops are better. Probably not here....but sometimes. There's a guy that makes outer dew wipes for Fieros out of his garage. I've bought three sets for different cars. His quality is night and day better than what came on the car from the factory. He has a reputation such that there is usually a waiting list to get them.

As these cars age, the supply of OEM is going to dwindle to nothing. You know what that means.....

That guide looks twice as strong. Post the link for us to go and buy it. I think the new ones I installed in Betty Boop about a year ago already broke. Yesterday the window was making that old infamous sound.

Speaking of lousy quality repop parts, Marco needs yet another door switch for the courtesy lights. This makes #3. Yes, I've set the preload correctly. Gotta love repop stuff.....

I got this from Ebay, was still in the GM bag, I got lucky, good hunting!

Right one is the OEM thus the difference in thickness and felt quality.

The right one is OEM. Notice how much thicker the felt is on that one versus the repop on the left.

Well, then the OEMs are not that strong either.

I bought one at the Chevy dealer and it came with no felt. I had to add own.

You know what, you're right. I looked back through my old invoices, and the guides I had that came without felt were actually genuine GM parts I ordered from the local dealer. I can't imagine why in the world GM would service these parts without the felt, as the guides will wear immediately without anything to protect the plastic.

Would probably rattle, too.
