They are really fun for people who don't have the opportunity to take their car to the track much. I myself have one and have lots of fun with it. I got mine for $60 from a forum member, I doubt if I'd pay the full retail price though. Some people may say they're pieces of crap, and I have no way to test their accuracy, cuz I myself haven't taken my car to the track yet. Apparently, they are accurate to within a tenth of a second. I never played around with the horsepower mode, for that you'd need to know the exact weight of the testing vechicle (car, passengers, gas, yadda yadda). BUT... for testing mods, it's great, cuz it's all relative to the mods, providing weather conditions are the same.
Re: G-Tech Pro Performance Meter? (black_89_vette)
They are pretty good, pretty accurate.....I have a Vericom 200 which is like an older but better version (tells you more data for each run). Although I have found that getting careless about the place and times of day you do your quarter mile runs can make you prone to getting tickets. :D
I got a nice little stretch of road that there's no driveways on , and it's straight for 4 km (2.5 miles ish). Boy, do I ever have $'s of rubber on that road :D
It's kinda outta the way, so I have never gotten caught yet. Damn , I hate that word yet. Oh well, until I do, I'll turn and burn.
Got one, having fun with it actually. I went out and bought 4 BFGoodrich tires for my VW bunny back when they had the promotion for getting a free G-Tech Pro in doing so. Finding the weight of the vehicle isn't all bad, each car has the 'Gross Vehicle Weight Rating' printed on one of the stickers which is affixed to the body (door jam is a common place). This weight includes a full car and each seat filled with 180 pounds of human (the Vette would have 360 pounds added as it's a 2 seat vehicle). If you don't have 2, 180 pound humans (or whatever you're carrying) in the car, subtract all 360 pounds and add whatever your weight is. I am unsure if the GVWR includes full gas tank, full cooling system and full engine lubricant or not. . .?
Anyway, I've had fun with my bunny, found out it'll do 0.97 Gs of lateral grip and there's more than what I extracted too.
My roommate had one, and it proved to be fairly accurate. I think one of the key things it provides (whether accurate or not) is a baseline. You can than see how you do relative to your baseline after mods. :chevy
