C4 bose is not compatable with anything aftermarket. You need to buy a converter. If you don't, its like running a 110v radio on 220v power. It will fry after working for a little while, either the deck or the amps. I'd just replace the whole thing. The bose sounded like crap on the dealer showroom floor.
i am at circuit city now and have been FOR 10 HOURS STRAIGHT. i am replacing the entire bose system and it is a PITA. Thats an understatement. To add insult to injury just as i drove away the cd crapped out so i am back and they are putting a different head unit in. it will be over 11 hours by the time i leave here. I'd lke to go to Bose and kick some major behind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !

Re: new cd player (robertpel9)
What system did you get installed? I'm looking to buy one, my crappy crackly Bose is unacceptable. I'm thinking of Infinity speakers all the way around, 6x9s in back, instead of plates, and I don't want to bother with amp/sub just yet. For head unit, maybe Alpine CDA-7984 mp3 or JVC-sh707, and paint it black. Alpine=expensive, but its one of few that matches the dash--if you set it to amber lighting.
I disagree! :smash: I have an aftermarket head unit with all Bose stock and my shiz ROCKS. Even my personal stereo guy was blown away how good it sounded with the conversion. My stereo sounds so much better than my bother's all bose in his NSX. All I changed was the head, everything else is stock.
Go with a double din aftermarket head unit and new speakers. Swapped my Bose unit this winter for a Clarion unit and speakers. Everything ran alittle over $400 and I put it in myself. People on the Forum will help you. Go for it!!!! John
I've installed an Alpine CDA-7873 in dash cd player with the stock bose speakers, the sound was a lot better and lowder than the stock head unit. No more noises, cracks, ..., ....
The only problem is that bose uses different ohm specs, and will sound lowder at a lower volume level thus you could blow the speakers, to correct this you need to add some sort of resistor to each speaker (haven't done it).
Rewiring the speakers is necessary.
Also I've also installed a Precision Power A600 amp with a 10W3 JL (10 in. woofer dual voice coil) on a bandpass.
You should give the bose speakers a try, anyway, if you don't like them on the new head unit, you just junk them away. A friend of mine (who drives a non riced civic with 3 JL 12w3 woofers, with $3000 on a sound system) told me it sounds very nice, and loved the woofer.
