Default o2 sensor help

Hi all, finally got my apparently original o2 sensors out of my 94 lt1 6 spd. Had to use heat and other methods to get the drivers side out and in doing so I think I messed up the threads, as the new one won't thread in. I've heard of thread chasers but don't have any. Is this my only option? If so what size? I can't weld so a new position is out. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I borrowed a tap and followed your suggestions, took a while because of inexperience I guess, but it worked. I really thought it was beyond repair. Thank you very much

Don't forget the anti-seize, although most replacement O2 sensors come with a dab on them.

Anti-seize will make it much easier the next time you remove them. I re-fashioned an old 13/16" box end wrench to make it easier to loosen and tighten sensor.

The new ones each came with a packet of anti seize that I used. Had 2 different o2 sensor sockets, even broke a flare nut wrench. Soaked them for 2 days with PB blaster. They were definitely original, 20 years is a long time to be in there I guess.

Would have been a prime opportunity to try the 50/50 acetone atf mix on those O2 sensors.

PB Blaster=ok. A 50/50 mix of acetone & ATF=Best Ever! Here's the cold, hard facts from the April/May 2007 edition of Machinist's Workshop. They did a test of penetrating oils where they measured the force required to loosen rusty test devices. Buy the issue if you want to see how they did the test. The results reported were interesting. The lower the number of pounds the better.

Penetrating oil . Average load .. Price per fluid ounce
None ................. 516 pounds .
WD-40 .............. 238 pounds .. $0.25
PB Blaster ......... 214 pounds .. $0.35
Liquid Wrench ... 127 pounds .. $0.21
Kano Kroil ........ 106 pounds .. $0.75
ATF-Acetone mix.. 53 pounds .. $0.10
