You should list year and mileage so we can help out better. If it's a 85 thru 96 check your vacuum line on the fuel pressure regulator for gas in it, also check your crankcase for gas in your oil. You might have the start of a small regulator leak also check where the hard metal lines run into the fuel rail. Just a fast place to look so you can rule out a leak in those areas.

Also, is the mpg based on the display or are you calculating it after filling up?

Good question. The computer may be calculating it wrong. Do it the old fashion way and see what that says.

It's on the intake manifold next to the EGR valve and in front of the distributor. The stock one is not adjustable. Have you checked the fuel pressure? Is the timing set properly?

BTW, a 383 stroker is not gonna help with gas mileage.....

My 383 gets 26 mpg highway ,so your not even getting 383 gas mileage..... I would say to have you car scanned to see if its going into closed loop.. If it's not going into closed loop that could cause the rotten gas mileage..WW

You need to pull the error codes to see what the ECM thinks is happening. That said, it sounds like your CTS (Coolant Temperature Sensor) is either bad, disconnected or has a bad connection.

How to pull error codes:

another thing i was wanting to add is where exactly is the cts because i changed a sensor on top of the radiator and im want to make sure that is the exact one before i start tracing wires and stuff and some additional info is that after i changed it my low coolant light didn't go off. i burped the system and everything and did the control test of ground out the wire to make sure and it was still on.

It sounds like you replaced the CTS for the dash gauge (in the passenger side head). The sensor in the radiator is the low coolant level switch.

The CTS that the ECM uses is mounted on the front of the intake manifold under the throttle body.

It's the one on the right in this picture (the one on the left is the cold start injector thermo switch):

You might have to remove your MAF & air tube along with your TB 4 bolts to get at the CTS. Then you can see it clearly. I think the emission pump is in the way if you don't. I don’t have the pump and piping any longer so I can’t remember what exactly needs coming off.
