The problem was intermittent...installed the bypass module...http://www.ecklerscorvette.com/corve...Product_Viewed. Hasn't done it since, but I had a new key made without the pellet in it to see if it would work and it won't even turn the tumbler.
Connection of spare key wired to vats for test of ignition key switch
I have a simple test using your spare ignition key to be sure it’s the ignition switch. It worked for me and saved me a lot time troubleshooting. I wrapped 2 pieces of thin wire a couple times around the key and put one wire on one side of the key resistor and the other wire to the other side making sure the wire does not touch the sides of the key. I used gorilla tape and wrapped it around the key resistor very tight. From the other end of the wire I tested it with my meter and it was at 475 ohms for my mod 11 key as expected. I unplugged the Vats connector under the dash and connected one wire to each of the 2 pins of the wire going to the ccm. Fired right up. Ordered the bypass kit.

Reason: Added picture for reference
I just used an ohm meter(11.25k ohms) and read the value on the key then cross referenced it with the Vats resistor values on the internet(11.8k ohms). Pick out a resistor within the acceptable range(12k ohms value but actually metered at 11.95k ohms) and soldered it to the Vats plug under the dash.
Resistor in the key is completely useless now.
It was weird how low the keys ohm value was. Wonder if it's value had drifted over the past 26 years. It was low enough that it was probably bordering on not satisfying the VATS system.
Where does one get the VATS delete chip for the ECM?
Didn’t you post in a previous post that you had a vats delete chip burned ?
this bypass shown here is just a key cylinder bypass simply a overpriced resistor in a box. Several tpi/lt1 tuners on the internet. But with your fuel pump not doing a prime that’s not vats related.
Yea, we have posted so much stuff about this car and have received lots of great responses. We don't know if it's a VATS or ECM issue or something else. It is way beyond my knowledge of this stuff lol. Car did not run when my son got it, thus the reason for the cheap price. He has decided to list it on Market place and maybe someone else can bring it back to life. At least all I have is an idle issue on mine lol.
