What year? When you say cups, I'm thinking an early c4. The reservoir on my 94 master cylinder is held in place with one bolt on the side and then just pulls out... It's the one piece style, sounds like yours might be different.

Twist and pull HARD.
It's best to empty out as much brake fluid as possible before doing this. I suggest wrapping a rag around the bottom of the cups to prevent brake fluid from flying around. It will remove paint instantly.

I just replaced the grommet on my 87. I slipped a thin, flathead screw driver under it then, while applying gentle upward pressure, I rocked the reservoir back and forth. It pretty much just popped off. Getting it back on...oye!
