Had my transmission fluid drained and replaced after the gasket began leaking fluid onto my exhaust pipe. The Chevy dealership did the work, they stopped the leak, but now my overdrive will not kick in any thoughts?
1992 automatic.
Codes? Pcm should set code if TCC is commanded and converter won't engage. Low fluid, fuse, TCC soleniod, brake switch, internal gear switch or connection, transmission harness unplugged, engine not heating up enough to enable TCC allow engagement. I would take it back to dealership a road test with scanner should indicate cause They should be able to do that much for free, beyond that there could be costs involve. Unplugged harness, disconnected switch, or low fluid would be dealers responsiblity. It's a 21-22 year old car stuff happens
Unfortunately the Chevy dealership that did the work is around 500 miles from home, otherwise I would bring it back. I was on vacation with my Corvette club. Funny you're from Hampton, VA because the dealership in Williamsburg, VA did the work.
I'm hoping that they forgot to connect a harness or something simple as that because it was shifting into OD fine up to that point. It's actually not much of a show stopper, I usually bang around town with it in D anyhow.

Lockup (TCC ) is completely different to 4th gear (O/d ) unless the OP is confused as to what he is talking about ?
In any case ,on a '92 with the 700R4 ,there is no feedback to say the convertor is locked ( or not ) when it is commanded
OD is completely mechanical. The only thing I can think of offhand is that maybe the shifter cable is not adjusted correctly. Are you really in OD or maybe in 3rd?
The detents you feel at the shifter are inside the transmission so you should be able to get from Neutral to OD with one "click".
There is a switch inside the transmission that tells the ECM that it is in OD. If you drive over 40 MPH in 3rd gear for more than a minute the upshift light will come on in the tach window.
TCC lockup can be confused with an upshift (it feels just like an upshift if your torque converter clutch is in good shape). My car will go into TCC lockup in any gear at 40 MPH.
I have never had an up-shift light on my tach. It's either always been burned out or maybe we are talking about different cars, mines a 92. I have the correct detentes going from drive to overdrive to neutral. I need to get it up onto a lift and poke around. I'm still hoping something was disconnected while dropping the transmission pan. Probably wishful thinking, but even a blind dog gets lucky once in a while and finds a bone.

Not much to be disconnected on the outside if the shifter is engaging the other gears.
Only thing you can really do is confirm that O/d indicated on the shifter is the O/d position on the selector shaft at the trans.

I was talking about the older style dashboard, so yours might be different. I think the upshift light is there, but probably not in the tach area. On my car when you first turn on the ignition, the dash does a "lamp test" and turns on ALL the segments for a second or two. I would think that yours does something similar.

There is a wiring harness that connects to the trans. It has the TCC signal and the 4th gear switch signal. There might be others, depending on your trans type. It's possible that connector was unplugged for some reason (shouldn't need to do that for a fluid change).
