Default wheels

I have a c4 but I have just purchased a set of c6 wheels 2- 19x10 and 2-18x8.5. are they a direct bolt on or is there something I have to do to make them fit?

Year will help us alot. If it is an 85 like your screen name, no, they are NOT a bolt on. You are going to need spacers.

1 inch will work. They won't be exact, but they are close enough and easier to find than .8" spacers. You can get a full set for about 100.00 dollars on ebay.

You talking spacers or adapters. I don't think the factory studs are long enough for 1" spacers. Adapters bolt to the existing studs and have another set of studs for the wheels.

Yes, I mis-worded it. You'll need adapters.

If you have access to a press and the mechanical aptitude to do the job, it might be cost-effective and safer to run spacers with longer studs.
Jegs, Summit, etc. list extra-length studs.

Good adapters should bolt on to the existing studs and with 1" adapters, the OEM stud should not protrude past the adapter's wheel mounting face. Test fit them to make sure the car stud won't go past the adapter face You can use standard lug nuts and torque them to the OEM spec.

The bolt circle size for the C4, C5 and C6 will be 5x120.6mm so make sure you get adapters for that bolt circle.

I had this same issue, the 18's fit the front with no problem but the rear had to have adapters

I believe that the rears will require a different adapter/spacer than the front likely. On the wheels that you have bought there should be wheel information cast into the wheel stating offsets. You haven't mentioned if you've bought OEM/GM C6 wheels or replicas and "all are NOT created" equal. Tire/wheel fitments are done car by car with generic fitments tossed aside until you determine what you have.

I also believe that maybe a front of greater than 1" might be ideal. I did the math assuming to place the new tire/wheel in the same position as an early Z51 tire/wheel placement.

The offsets that you bought will determine what's needed. Post those numbers for more accurate information. Spend your adapter/spacer money just "once"!

Your experience with a '95 isn't to be compared with the OP's '85. Completely different wheel offset requirements are involved.

OP - you will need adapter/spacer X 4 it's just a matter of what's the best fit. Did you buy tires and wheels or just wheels?
