Driving back from a cruise and serp belt started squealing. Pop hood and one of the pullys isn't moving, causing the belt to smell, squeak and create shavings everywhere.
Belt was replaced with alternator about 6-7 months ago. Coats belt.
I got a picture with the pully im referring to circled in red. Is it supposed to turn? Because it's locked up. And which pully is it?
So I know how to change the serp belt (half inch breaker or torque wrench) easy peasy.
But I went and bought the pully, and Im wondering if its easier to remove the nut on the back of the pully itself or to remove the nut on the tensioner assembly and then remove the pully nut.
The reason I ask is Im having trouble reaching the pully nut whether its in the normal position or pushed down to relieve tension. I can kind of reach it with a wrench, but can't reach it at all with a socket.
Here's a picture illustrating kind of what I mean.
Got it replaced. Thanks guys. I ended up just taking the pulley off. Just realized I misspelled pulley this whole thread. Oh well.
It kind of strained my back having to lift up on the tensioner with one arm, while crooked over and using a wrench with the other. But it took me like 10 minutes, so if I can do it anyone can.
