go to our favoriate auction site look at seats01. He has 100% leather seat covers that when installed you cannot tell from factory. I paid less then 400.00 shiped. Took about an hr a side to install. Trust me you will not be disapointed.....

IMO it's best to buy them already installed on new foam

Bank on $1000 for new leather on foam. And I agree that mounted is the way to go.

Willcox has mounted leather for about $870 plus shipping using their 15% coupon.
Don't rule out leather like. Bought mine almost 7 years ago and they still look new. Can't say that about the faded carpet. They are about $250 less.

The worst part for me was installing them back onto the seat frame. What a pain that was. Sadly I have to take my seats back out to re-tighten up the leather on the foam where it scrunched up a little on the install. Any tips on putting them in easier for me and the OP?

Also, I ordered my seat covers from Mid America and then covered them myself. Lot cheaper and not as hard as you would think. I could actually buy the seats and new foam I wanted that way.

All you have to do is cut a V into a large screwdriver. Catches the clips and they go right in

That is exactly why leather on foam is the way to go. New leather on old foam will always leave flat spots and wrinkles no matter how well it's done.

Are you replacing covers on the standard or sport seats? The ones they sell with the covers already mounted on the foam are for the standard seats only, they don't sell those for the sport seats, at least the last time I checked. Leather-like look almost as good as the leather ones, the colors sometime vary though. You can also get covers without the perforations if you like as well.

If you have the standard seats, definitely go with the already mounted ones, just snap your old ones out and and snap the new ones in. If you have the sport seats, be sure to buy the covers and new foam. You can add foam to the originals, but in my opinion, it's more work and you'll still get the wrinkles.

I came across a set of seats from a low mileage C4 and just replaced my old ones with them. It was definitely cheaper and they still look great 5 years later. You might want to consider that as well.
