corvette crashes?

Making assumptions behind the wheel is dangerous. And most of these folks assume that they can A- handle the power of any car they drive because B- they have driven a car fast. What they need to do is take a dose of common sense and an even bigger dose of respect for the vehicle that they get behind the wheel of. I believe that it takes years behind the wheel of your car, in all conditions, without adding mods/making changes for you to be able to fully exploit the abilities of your car. You cannot just loaf around behind the wheel and then, at whim, 'Go Mario' whenever you like.
If you own a high-performance car you need to know what it can and cannot do. Mashing the pedal once in awhile between stoplights doesn't count as being a 'hot shoe' behind the wheel. And too many Sunday drivers think exactly this of their abilities. Making it worse is when they get behind the wheel of their friend's car and assume the same of it as they do of their own car.
Common sense + respect = safe driving
NO respect + assumption = a wreck waiting to happen

Seriously,
