Possible wheel bearings. I took one off of a friends 94 once and it came off in two pieces.

Brakes, diff or possibly bearings. You need to be more specific.

Jack it up, on jack-stands, grip tires at 12:00 & 6:00. Wiggle with force. If more than 1/8" of play, replace the wheel bearing.

Rotate tires, in neutral, listen to see where noise comes from.

Get under there and check with a light to make sure nothing is rubbing or broken.

Could be the emergency brake is shot. The shoes for it are inside of the rotors. (slide the rotors off to check)
Do you have a "clunk" when shifting into reverse or drive? (U-joints)

84s are known for wheel hub bearing failure. When I went to race my 84 in SCCA auto cross the first thing the tech checked was my wheel hubs and sure enough they were bad. Very hard job to do in your driveway since the 3 bolts that hold the hubs must be gotten from the inside. After 30 years of heat and dirt I can assure you they dont come off easy. Unless you have a compressor and the right tools this is not a job you want to do at home. I was also told to buy OEM hubs. They run about $250.00 each. The Corvette specialist in my area gets a grand for the whole job with OEM parts..

is it only at certain speeds? have you checked the u-joints for any play or removed the driveshaft and checked for any noise in the u-joint's bearings? is the car an automatic or a 4+3? there can be bearing noises in the transmission as well that an sound like they're coming from the rear end. does the grinding noise increase in intensity with speed?

Really? I 'only' got 110,000 out of mine.

I did them myself and they were a bugger. One new-in-box, from a popular huge, mail-order place, had the same play as the old one.. nice.. can you say Chinese, despite my best efforts to avoid? Not sure price alone dictates quality.

OEM hub and bearing assemblies can be found for around $300, sometimes slightly less while the imported aftermarket hubs cost about $50 each.
