Default 1984 BOSE head unit

I believe my BOSE head unit is shot to $h!t. When I turn it on, it plays for about 5 minutes then turns to static on the FM. I then switch to AM and am able to listen it it for about 5 more minutes, then the whole thing goes to static and I am radioless. It has been doing that for the past 2 months and my remedy is just to spank the face of the radio and it somehow begins to work again.

What can I do to either repair what I have or get one identical or similar? (I am trying to keep the stock look).

Any help will be welcome.
Thank you in advance,

-Jorge

If it were me I would take it apart and look for cold solder joints. What do you have to lose?

I'd bet more on a broken connection than on cold solder joint, at this age.

I should have the stock Bose '84 radio in a garage cabinet; worked when I pulled it many years ago, as did all the speakers.

I wanted to keep my 86 original, I sent it to Dr. Don and was very pleased with the results.

You can send it away for repair, but will cost many times what another 84 working radio would cost.

Likely a failed internal electronic component such as a transistor or capacitor in an integrated circuit strip. The parts are almost 30 years old now and you can't expect them to last forever. Easy fix for someone who knows what they are doing but may not be practical due to cost or intended purpose of your 84. Aftermarket replacement?

I would like to keep it stock, because my thinking is if in were to sell it I would get more value with a stock look.

I like factory stock stuff. I would just send this to Dr. Don's and get it fixed.
