My wife and I count Corvettes when we're on the road to pass the time. We keep score: A point for seeing a Corvette, & another point for getting the "C" series right, and 8 points (10 total) if you get the year right. I cleaned up driving south on I-65 just north of Bowling green. I caught site of two of those car haulers loaded with new C7s!
(Guess wrong and its point taken OFF; cars in dealerships don't count)
I remember as a kid riding with my dad in his C4 and coming across a car hauler that was loaded with new, at the time, 1996 CE and 2 GS's. We have a picture of that truck somewhere along with photos we took off the first truck we saw with C5's somewhere around the end of '96 or early '97.
Reminds of when the 84 first came out. A buddy of mine and I were big into C3's. He called me and told me a truck load of the new Corvettes was parked in the church parking lot. We went up and crawled all over the truck looking at them, are conclusion was I will never own one, does not even look like a Corvette and that suspension will never last. LOL
34 years later I have had 8 C4's it is one of my favorite generations. Still have 3.

Haha, that sounds fun. I think I'll give that game a shot. How often do you guys claim year? That usually takes up-close details to confirm.
Speaking of the "period" thread, I would kill to see some good "big hair" 80's pics with some early C4s, haha. Someone's gotta have some sitting around...

Claiming year is a toughy: you're right, it isn't that often, unless it is a C7 - at least up until the 2015s come out of course. Some years are a lot easier than others: you get to know the nuances like gill panels, split window (duh!), the different L88 hood styles, only one chrome bumper, looking for the painted strip between the fog lights and the side marker lights (indicative of a 96 with colored or a 95 with black only strip) after a while. But, clues like a truck load of new Corvettes leaving Bowling Green in December? Piece 'o cake - even from the other side of the Interstate...is how I creamed her that day. But, Ami is relentless, and so she usually kicks my butt if I get "into the zone" behind the wheel.
I LOVE that picture!! Where did you find that one at? Any idea of what year it was taken?
I am guessing that they are '85's.
The reasoning is that the wheels have the black centers ('84 or '85), and the exhaust looks to be straight. The '84 exhaust tips are turned down while the '85 tips are straight.
It is a pretty big guess/impression that they are straight, but there are a couple cars that give me that impression while none of them give me the impression they are turned down.

The first Vette I owned was a '85. I love the early C4's.

I'd say they are '84 models. One of the white ones on top doesn't appear to have the third brake light on top of the halo (only started requiring them in '85). A bit hard to tell though with the poor resolution.

I think those are '85 model year cars. The third light want until 1986.

Yup. Just checked and they became manditory in Sept. 1985 for all '86 model cars. Strange though, I was looking at an '85 just last week and it had the 3rd light on top. I wonder if it was an option that year or if it was put on aftermarket.
