It wasn't an option. More than likely, the hatch assembly was replaced with a '86 and up part.

Those are 1984's, the weels have black centers. I'm pretty sure 1985 corvettes had gray centers and 1986 and 1987's had polished centers.

Wrong...'85's had black centers (like the '84's). '86 and '87's had the argent centers.

Actually I think we're both wrong. 1984 and 1985 did have black centers but 1986 had the natural (polished) centers and 1987 had argent centers.

This picture brings back some really good memories. I was involved in a Chevrolet-Oldsmobile dealership back in the 1980's and we received a truck load of 1985 Corvettes. The whole load was ours. Took a while to move all of them. If my memory serves me 5 were ordered by customers and the others were for the store. After the long 1984 production run the 1985s did not move as fast. I do miss those days. Thanks Ron for posting that picture.
