starting problems my 86 c4
went to restart the car and starter just clicks and the dash scrambles, then all power to car goes out.
if i shut off the key and wait a minute the power comes back but will not start , only repeats the clicking starter dash scrambles then power goes out.
Motor is turning over when the starter is clicking.
tried using jump box to make sure it wasnt a lack of power , but same problem continues.
battery was replaced in january and car has been driven with the new battery a few times to work and back.
not sure where to start.
I had similar symptoms when my battery leaked acid and it ate up the copper wire inside the battery cable. Jumping didn't help because the power wasn't getting to the starter. My dash lights came on when I turned on the ignition but went out when I tried to crank.
Possibly a bad starter solenoid or the starter motor itself.
i got out my testlight and went to start checking the wires coming from the battery , and my light would not light up when touching positive and the quick disconnect on the negative cable.
i touched both posts and the light lit up.
the quick disconnect was very tight and still was not getting a good connection.
i unscrewed the disconnect and could see where it had been arcing.
cleaned it up and retightened it and the car started ,and stays running.
Have these quick disconnects been a problem for others in the past.
i'm thinking of removing it.
