Just bought an Edelbrock high flow manifold that marries vortec heads to the TPI on my 86.Cost a bit over 500 bucks. There are casting lines and rough places inside the runners/ports, sharp edges everywhere as if no deburring was done what so ever. I am very disappointed in their finished product. I should send it back but I need it and plan on working it a bit anyway. Just bitching a bit.
I would be frustrated too. Get out some tools and clean it up if you aren't gonna return it. Did you order it from Summit ? I see a 3860 for sale here in the PHX area for $250. Might be worth checking out. Craigslist auto parts type in Corvette or Edelbrock to find the ad
I f you want power gains, I would keep the manifold and take it and the runners and the plenum to a engine shop and have everything port-matched. Take gaskets too so they can be trimmed as necessary. All that will improve airflow into the heads.
Are the head still on the engine? If not, it would be a good time to clean up the intake and exhaust ports, get a good valve job, and consider some 1.6 rockers and guide plates.
These C4 generation Vettes' market has been dead for a while. In the ARP website, they no longer carry the head bolt kit. Slowly more parts will become "discontinued".
New Vette, new engine, new focus for an after-marketplace.
