I had a video of the Nevada silver state Classic, I beleive it was called.
You run what you bring for 10 miles or so I beleive it was, not sure.
They had Vettes from the 80's and allot of exotics.
Many different classes, anyway I remember there where 2 black C4's from the late 80's and they ran in the 160's.
I have to find that video but heres the link : http://www.silverstateclassic.com/
Holy moly. I'm moving to the Vegas area next week so that's a great find for me! Thanks for pointing it out. Now I just gotta go get that C4 I'm hunting for...
If anyone is actually serious about the Salt Flats in north west Utah far side of Salt Lake City you can go and just top it out. Things to be considered are breaking down or getting caught by a park ranger. The suggestion was made to just go run at my own risk of getting stuck out there just to see what my top speed in a safe environment. No thanks.
Who made that suggestion? I said that you CAN do it, and I don't believe any park rangers are going to be giving any tickets out. First, there are not park rangers. There is NOTHING there. It's empty vastness. I've done it...didn't get stuck...didn't get a ticket.

Sorry Tom was only trying to add a little humor. One question, did you have to bring gas ? Or is there a gas station close enough so you don't have to bring gas cans ?

There's a gas station at the exit/entrance to the park.
Each time I've been at the end of the paved road to the salt, there's a sign warning people to stay off.
Not going to debate Tom's experience, but the signs warn of a penalty....
Yeah, we had that conversation before, and I don't know what to make of it. I have no doubt that you saw what you say you saw....but I never saw any such sign, and if you go to the BLM web site, you can find directions for how to drive your car on the salt (what to consider, look out for, etc.)
"14. When do I need a permit? If you are there during a recreation event or filming
project, you may need to pay an entrance fee and/or adhere to specific security
restrictions. If you arrive when there are no events occurring and want to take personal
photos, view the area, and/or drive on the salt, you do not need to get a permit or pay
fees. You do need to obtain a permit from the BLM Salt Lake Field Office if you are
planning an organized group event or any type of commercial filming at Bonneville Salt
Flats. Special permit fees will usually be required. For more details, contact the BLM at
801-977-4300.

Thanks Tom, Next outing will include a pass or two. Or I'll photo the sign for record keeping of course.
There are times of the year where the salt is very dry and perfect for driving any car on.
Now turning the wick up will leave a coating in the wheel wells.
But that is easily brushed or rinsed off.
There are dangers that most are unaware of and that's flat spinning.
Traction on salt is very different from conventional road surfaces.
So if your planning on a flat out run bring a second vehicle and friend along.

I live in Gilbert AZ which is about 20 minutes from Phoenix. The drive to the Salt Flats is 763 miles. I would LOVE to go based on this information. I lost interest the last time I was looking into this adventure but now I'm really tempted. Running flat out in a safe environment ! I am going to ask around and see if I can interest some other guys in making the drive. Should be a good opportunity for one of a lifetime video. Worse case scenario with respect to the salt is finding a lift and getting a pressure washer on it to clean it up. Pretty easy as far as I am concerned. I will have to see if AAA will be willing to come get me from there before I go.

I'm sans Corvette right now (hoping to change within a year), but I'm moving to Vegas next week so I'd likely be on your route up there. If you do decide to head out there sometime toss me a PM to see if that's changed or if you just want a riding companion. And agreed on the salt/pressure washing. And @ AAA. That's a good point. I've never been out there but I imagine being stranded there would be... unfortunate.

No problem.
I Love Vegas.
Wish I could find that Video, it was a good one.
I bought it back in 2001 and liked it because it showed stock L98 C4's.
One bad part was when a guy and His and wife( driving a Testarossa) spin off the road and the guy was killed, but I think his wife lived.
Thats why they make you sign forms before you go because its a real road not a race track so the sensation of speed is even more vivid.

Yeah, that's too bad. I can imagine people getting carried away and such accidents happening. I'm the cautious type so I'd naturally err on the side of safety, because you just never know when fun turns to nightmare.

Sorry about double posting here guys - But c4inmesa, I tried to PM you back and your inbox was full. It says you need to clear some space before you can receive messages.

I found the Video of the VHS I had on Y tube, someone posted it up.
Here's the link:
Wow, nice! This video is awesome... except for the tragic accident. They described it as a blowout, so it may have just been dumb luck which killed the wife. Terrible. Makes you think the husband may have felt terribly guilty for years after, even if it wasn't necessarily his fault.
Very cool event, though. And this video makes me miss the 80s.
